It got me thinking as to how idyllic it probably was to people who maybe grew up in quite an urban environment. It's funny how you never notice how good something may be at the time. I certainly didn't before I got to school leaving age and, like many local kids, moved away to the bright lights of the big cities down South. So here are a couple of images of where I got the name Corpachbhoy. I'm told that the word Corpach is a bastardisation of a Norse word meaning place of the dead. I was told that when the Vikings used to bury their Chiefs on the Hebriddean Islands they used to come down the Great Glen and rest up in Corpach before making the last leg of their voyage. I can't speak for it's provenance, but it makes a nice wee story anyway. (If you have ever visited Corpach, please keep the fact that I've avoided posting any images of the rather large Paper Mill located at Annat Point to yourself).

Ordnance Survey 1:50,000

A view back towards Corpach from the pier at Corpach Basin (Where the sea lock gate leading to the Caledonian Canal is located) with Loch Linnhie in the foreground.

A view towards the shops (there are two by the way) from near the Kilmallie Village Hall (Corpach is in the parish of Kilmallie).

The Corpach Hotel. As far as I know it's still run by Tosh and if you're ever in there, I believe it's still - Put your initials on the board and it's "winner stays on".

The view towards Ben Nevis and Fort William across Loch Linnhie
